Worms, Worms, and More Worms
December 19, 2024Happy New Year to the Parents and Children
December 31, 2024If you’ve ever sat in a yard and watched hummingbirds buzz around while robins pecked for worms and sparrows played tag while on the move, you have an appreciation, no doubt, of a bird sanctuary.
Despite all the gloom and doom, and the predictions of ecological disaster, and the feelings of helplessness that many people feel, there are things you can do to help, and creating a bird sanctuary, in your yard, is one of those things.
And what a great activity for the whole family to enjoy together.
Here are a few suggestions for you to consider as you plan your sanctuary during these upcoming winter months:
- Plan ahead and prepare limitations.
- Invite friends or family to help you maintain the sanctuary.
- Be consistent in every aspect.
- Avoid harmful chemicals.
- Focus on habitat, water, and food.
- Plant native plants in your garden.
- Put up a birdhouse in your yard.
- Install water features.
- Do research on what specific birds like to eat.
- Ask your local Audubon about the best plants to grow.
- Design your yard to offer diverse habitats.
