Welcome to Sequoia's Treehouse Children's Center

At Sequoia’s Treehouse, our emphasis is on the physical, cognitive, and social/emotional growth of children ages 0 weeks to 6 years with a nature inspired outdoor focus. Children are presented with experiences allowing them to discover and explore their world through art, science, language, music, dramatic play, and the natural environment. Our focus is also allowing children the opportunity to explore and spend time in the outdoors as much as possible through free play and structured learning activities.

Our Center offers 8 developmentally aged classrooms and a School-Age After School program (offered through Sequoia's Early Learning Center) using emergent curriculum and Reggio Emilia as a basis for Learning Through Play. Our goal is to promote every child’s individual development using an appropriate mix of academic and recreational activities.

Center Hours 7:00am-6:00pm to accommodate working families.

Our Classrooms

We believe all humans learn at their own pace.  At Sequoia’s Treehouse, we do not require children to have built certain skills by any given age.  In many cases we will transition children to the next classroom at the ages listed (and space availability), but this will not be the case for everyone.  Some children may be ready for the next transition early and some may need some additional time.  We respect every child’s individuality and we are there to assist them along their way.

We are a fully licensed Childcare Center and follow WA State Teacher to Child ratios:
Seedlings (approx. 0 weeks to 18 months/1-4 ratio)
Sprouts (approx. 12 to 2 years/1-7 ratio)
Shoots (approx. 2 to 3 years/1-7 ratio)
Stems I (approx. 2.5 to 3.5/1-10 ratio)
Stems II (approx. 2.5 to 3.5/1-9 ratio)
Saplings (approx. 3.5 to 4 years/1-10 ratio)
Sequoias Pre-K (approx. 4 to 5 years/1-10 ratio)
Sequoias K (approx. 4 to 6 years/1-10 ratio)

We often have lower ratios but follow these WA State guidelines.

Seedlings

Infants 0 weeks to 18 months (approximately)

The early years of a child’s life are very important for his or her health and development. Healthy development means that children of all abilities, including those with special health care needs, are able to grow up where their social, emotional, and educational needs are met.

Your infant will feel right at home in our warm, loving environment. We provide individual care and attention in a warm, cozy classroom full of stimulating materials. We understand the early years of a child’s life are very important to their health and development. We work together as partners with parents to help children grow to reach their full potential. We realize children grow and develop at their own individual pace. Transition to the next classroom is based on the child’s age at 1 year.

Sprouts

Waddlers - 12 months – 2 years (approximately)

Waddlers are moving around more, and are aware of themselves and their surroundings. Their desire to explore new objects and people. During this stage, Waddlers will show greater independence; begin to show defiant behavior; recognize themselves in pictures or a mirror; and imitate the behavior of others, especially adults and older children. Waddlers also should be able to recognize the names of familiar people and objects, form simple phrases and sentences, and follow simple instructions and directions.

Your Waddler’s day will be full of new and rewarding experiences. Our patient teachers understand that your Waddler will learn through play, and grow with personal attention and love. They provide an environment that encourages children to explore the world around them while learning how to master everyday skills from walking to toilet training.

Shoots

Toddlers - 2 years – 3 years (approximately)

As children grow into early childhood, their world will begin to open up. They will become more independent and begin to focus more on adults and children outside of the family. They will want to explore and ask about the things around them even more. Their interactions with family and those around them will help to shape their personality and their own ways of thinking and moving. During this stage, children may start riding a tricycle, use safety scissors, notice a difference between girls and boys, help to dress and undress themselves, play with other children, recall part of a story, and sing songs.

Our Toddler classroom is set-up where children learn through activities based on a variety of age- appropriate topics. All activities follow an anti-bias curriculum. The teachers move throughout the interest areas in the classroom asking thought provoking questions and encouraging the children to try new things. Although encouragement and help are offered, each child is free to choose how they will participate.

Our Pre-K class is geared to the needs of the older, more independent child.  In the first year of our Pre-K, we envision creating a two-year kindergarten experience where your child can transition peacefully and at their own pace into the exciting world of education.  During these two years students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of reading and writing, numbers and simple math, as well as be prepared to move on in their educational lives with skills such as standing in line, waiting for a turn to speak, listening to others, and working both in a group and individually.

We offer a more structured environment that includes age-appropriate activities; games, arts and craft projects, manipulatives, small and large projects, and field trips. We promote creative expression and individuality in a caring atmosphere. We also emphasize personal responsibility for words and actions at this age as well as respect for self, family, teachers, and environment. It is a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore new ideas creatively and safely.

Sequoias Pre-K

Pre-K - 4 years to 6 years (approximately)

This stage brings many changes in a child’s life. By this time, children can dress themselves, catch a ball more easily using only their hands, and tie their shoes. Having independence from family becomes more important. Friendships become more and more important. Physical, social, and mental skills develop quickly at this time. This is a critical time for children to develop confidence in all areas of life, through friends, schoolwork, and sports.

I just wanted to send a quick note about the farm school. My daughter loves it, I love what it has done for her. She has new skills, confidence,  and a great attitude after coming to farm school.
I also wanted to tell you how wonderful all the teachers this year have been, but Bark in particular is just amazing with the kids. He is calm and respectful with them always.  He works to find solutions with them and he genuinely seems to enjoy being with them. It is a joy to watch the kids interact with him and vice versa!!!
I can't thank you enough for the last year of school for my daughter!

Tulia will be attending kindergarten in the fall. Although an inevitable milestone of her growth, we have so many mixed feelings. It has been an absolute pleasure and honor to have Tulia cared for at the center for the past three+ years. Her final day will be a celebration for us of how much she has grown, developed and learned during her time there, as well as emotional as we say goodbye to a fantastic team of amazing teachers.
Thank you so much for our time in the Sequoia family!

While our son is still adjusting to being at daycare, we love Sequoia's Treehouse. The staff are wonderful, patient and caring. The facilities are great and love how much time is spent outdoors! Hoping for a drop off without a meltdown at some point but feel confident and comfortable leaving our son in the Sprouts room!

The owner here has a heart as big as all outdoors and an enduring love for children. Her staff, from what I've observed, follow in that path. Children here, each time I visit, are engaged and happy. Lovely in every way.

Sequoia’s is a wonderful organization with amazing staff. Management is responsive, organized, and caring. Teachers are dedicated, reliable, and loved by our child. They have made great efforts to be inclusive of our queer family and honor pronounces. The school is clean and our kiddo gets outside on a daily basis and into nature regularly. I feel grateful to this school for all that they do.
