Let’s take a look at the skills we believe are crucial for a good preschool teacher, based on our extensive experience in this field.
Skills needed:
- Proven experience as a child care / daycare teacher
- Excellent knowledge of child development and up-to-date education methods
- Methodical and creative
- Patience, flexibility and love for children
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Certificate in first aid and CPR
- Planning and organization skills
- Coaching and mentoring skills
- Necessary state requirements
These are the criteria we base our hiring decisions upon when we interview at Sequia’s Treehouse. But beyond those, we also base our hiring on things which really can’t be quantified, things like positive vibes and what we like to call the Happiness Quotient. Is the person enjoyable to talk to and be around. Do you feel good in their company? What is it they call it in the Spiderman movies? The Spidey-sense? That’s what we are looking for, a teacher who exudes excitement for the job and who obviously loves being around children.
A final word about Sequioa’s Treehouse
At Sequoia’s Treehouse, our emphasis is on the physical, cognitive, and social/emotional growth of children ages 6 weeks to 7 years with a nature inspired outdoor focus. Children are presented with experiences allowing them to discover and explore their world through art, science, language, music, dramatic play, and the natural environment. Our focus is also allowing children the opportunity to explore and spend time in the outdoors as much as possible through free play and structured learning activities.
