What is a Children’s Center?

Have you noticed that our name is Sequia’s Treehouse Children’s Center? We don’t call ourselves a preschool, nor do we call ourselves a daycare.  Quite frankly, we are different from every other preschool/daycare in Olympia, so a name which sets us apart is appropriate.

Are we, then, a preschool?

Are we, then, a daycare?

We are those things and so much more.

At Sequoia’s Treehouse, our emphasis is on the physical, cognitive, and social/emotional growth of children ages 6 weeks to 7 years with a nature inspired outdoor focus. Children are presented with experiences allowing them to discover and explore their world through art, science, language, music, dramatic play, and the natural environment. Our focus is also allowing children the opportunity to explore and spend time outdoors as much as possible through free play and structured learning activities.

Our Center offers 6 developmentally aged classrooms and a School-Age After School program (offered through Sequoia’s Early Learning Center) using emergent curriculum and Reggio Emilia as a basis for Learning Through Play. Our goal is to promote every child’s individual development using an appropriate mix of academic and recreational activities.

Labels are limiting; thus, the words “preschool” and “daycare” are not mentioned in our description.
