Hello there! My name is Sequoia Hartman. I am the owner/general manager of Sequoia’s Treehouse Children’s Center located in NE Olympia, Sequoia’s Farm and Forest School Program located in NE Olympia, and Sequoia’s Early Learning Center located in Tumwater near downtown Olympia.
I love living in the Pacific Northwest with the mountains, conifer trees, rivers and lakes, and the ocean. I feel a connection to our planet, and it’s important to me that we raise generations that feel the same, so the planet will be taken care of because we need her.
I have been working with children for over 25 years. I have worked as a before/after school Teacher and Site Director, a Summer Camp Counselor for day and overnight camps, a Childcare Director responsible for multiple sites, an Executive Director, and I now own my two businesses, focused on the Reggio Emilia philosophy for Early Childhood Education, the Conscious Discipline behavioral theory, and being outdoors as much as possible. I have a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies.
I believe children should be playing and exploring in the outdoors as much as possible, learning how to be independent, and being allowed to be as creative as possible. If we know how to grow our own food, take care of our lands, take care of each other, and take care of all creatures, while also having respect for ourselves, each other, and the planet, I believe this is how we will survive and thrive.
I love my friends, my dogs, my businesses, those who work for and with me, my farm, all my animals on my farm and at the Treehouse, planet Earth, hiking, kayaking, camping, and a warm campfire.
