Leo Buscaglia
For those not familiar with that name, Leo Buscaglia was a famous lecturer, author, and teacher in the U.S. He taught a class at UCLA titled “Love,” and his writings on love, nature, and on education, are hailed around the world. You can find that thoroughly enjoyable man on YouTube.
One of my favorite stories about Buscaglia has to do with him living in a H.O.A. in Beverly Hills, this being back in the 1980s I believe. Now, Buscaglia loved nature, and one of his favorite things to do was walk barefoot through the leaves in his front yard in October. One day he received a warning from the H.O.A. governing board that he needed to rake up the leaves, that they were an eyesore in the neighborhood and his neighbors were complaining.
What did he do? He raked up all the leaves, carried them into his living room, and dumped them in there, where he proceeded to walk through them, barefoot, as often as he pleased.
Children need to immerse themselves in nature. Adults could benefit from it, too. Nature-based education is the key to wonders as yet undiscovered!
